March 17, 2023: Day One Society (Phoenix Foundation) was thrilled to receive a cheque for $5000 from the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy, and Petroleum (CIM) presented by Cory Dube and Iliana Arellano Nieto from Highland Valley Copper to Marilyn McLean, Board Chair (left).
The motion to donate $5000.00 to the Day One Society was brought forward by Tyler Thompson. Tyler was the Chair for the South Central BC branch and had been active with CIM for years and years. He was actively involved in local mining through working at HVC and New Gold. Sadly, Tyler passed away a few weeks ago on Feb 28 before he was able to make the donation presentation in person.
Keep up the great work your doing. Our communities need valuable programs like yours and we in CIM try to do all we can to help contribute and support our local programs. —Cory Dube, Secretary
The South Central British Columbia Branch of CIM finds its strength in the dedication of its members and the companies involved. The branch spans a vast mountainous region and hosts its activities in Kamloops, the “Tournament Capital of Canada.” The branch values education and has been a strong supporter of mining-related education for decades. The largest mine in the area, Highland Valley Copper, is located about 50 km from Kamloops, where more than half of its employees live.
