About Us
Day One Society provides services and programs to bring hope, help, and healing to youth and adults experiencing issues or challenges with substance use. We respect the integrity of each human being and believe that each person can change and accept personal responsibility for their own physical, emotional, social and spiritual health.

Our History
Our Society’s history began in 1973 with the formation of the Parents Alert Society, a group concerned about drug use by Kamloops youth who established the Adonis House in Kamloops. In 1979, the Adonis House was converted to an in-patient detox facility, which became the Phoenix Centre and our Society assumed responsibility for alcohol and drug counselling services.
A New Name—Day One Society
In 1982, Parents Alert Society changed its name to Kamloops Society for Alcohol and Drug Services. 41 years later in 2023, to better reflect the ‘one day, one step at a time’ journey of our clients and the hope that each new day brings, the Society changed its name to Day One Society. Over the past 50 years, the Society has grown to become the regional expert in withdrawal management and substance use services. Our dedicated team of healthcare, medical, and administrative professionals serve hundreds of youths, adults, and families throughout the Interior of British Columbia.
